The
Trust held its inaugural Len Pick
Memorial Lecture on the 29th January
2007 at the Corn Exchange Bourne
featuring Dr David Bellamy OBE
and Nick Williams.
The purpose of the annual lectures,
to be delivered by noted public
figures, is two fold. Firstly,
to honour our benefactor and
secondly, to offer the opportunity
to the townspeople of Bourne-our
stakeholders, an opportunity
of listening to well known public
figures speaking on matters
of current and topical interest.
Both
goals were successfully achieved
on Monday evening. David is a
well-known and respected environmentalist
of considerable standing. His
talk entitled “The Green
Renaissance – Stitching
the World Back Together”,
delivered in his own inimitable
style was thought provoking and
generated considerable discussion
both during and after the evening.
The first speaker
during the evening was local wildlife
photographer, Nick Williams. Members
of the audience were treated to
some fantastic examples of his
art with his combined slide and
music presentation depicting Barn
Owls in the local Fens and also
Golden Eagles in the wilds of
the Scottish Highlands.
Chairman of the trustees, Jonathan
Forster, commenting after the
event said “The evening
went extremely well and we are
very grateful to our speakers
for their presentations. The
fact that the tickets were fully
subscribed within a few days
of their release demonstrates
that the concept is a popular
one and one that we will build
on in the ensuing years in remembrance
of our benefactor”.
